Job Description

This position is responsible for creating end user demand, building relationships with Energy Management Controls & Automation (EMC&A) current and potential customers, and achieving sales goals within a given territory (Central Region). This position will focus the majority of time with electrical contractors, distributors, architects, lighting designers, engineers and end users.  The Specialist, Technical Sales I will focus on generating end user demand for EMC&A products to enhance sales and support sales reps, agents, and Regional Sales Managers.

Job Requirements:

1.  Develop an annual sales plan in conjunction with corporate sales and budget goals
2.  Develop strong relationships with electrical contractors, distributors, architects, lighting designers, engineers and end users
3.  Conduct technical, sales, and product trainings, contractor certifications, etc.
4.  Where possible, establish EMC&A as approved and preferred for use in specifications; coordinate specification of EMC&A products in project design
5.  Further develop the technical expertise necessary to sell Leviton products in each Business Unit
6.  Manage agent issues to include working with, and motivating agency personnel (if applicable)
7.  Provide service and support to EMC&A customers pre, during, and post project completion in a timely, accurate manner
8.  Maintain field intelligence on competitor’s activities and new product developments
9.  Work collaboratively with Inside and Outside Sales Reps within Business Unit on joint sales activity
10. Report activities of the sales territory on a monthly basis to the Regional Sales Manager
11. Serve as the EMC&A point of contact for end user accounts
12. Serve as a technical product expert for all EMC&A products
13. Certain specialists will be required to manage a sales territory size up to $2.5 million

Skills and Abilities:

•   Must possess strong leadership, relationship-building, and relationship management skills
•   Must have outstanding oral, written and verbal communication
•   Must have excellent presentation skills as well as negotiation skills
•   Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software is required specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint
•   Ability to communicate with every level of an organization from top level executives to field personnel


Education and Experience:

•   Bachelor’s Degree required; technical degree strongly preferred
•   4 – 8+ years of experience selling EMC&A products or comparable experience selling similar products in the lighting and building control industry
•   High level of technical expertise and/or multiple years of proven experience in a highly technical industry
