Position Overview

The Senior Manager, Supply Chain requires full use and application of purchasing and production planning principles as applied to new product development, sustaining of ongoing production, management of product throughout its life cycle, and management of the strategic sourcing function. This position works throughout all elements of the supply chain in ensuring that established operational metrics and goals are met. This position works under minimal supervision.

 

Essential Functions

  • In conjunction with the Operations Manager, maintains inventory accuracy and meets inventory turn goals and line fill

  • Works with Product Management and staff to address line fill through forecasts updates, targets inventory updates, inventory and order moves, and acceleration of materials and/or production as required

  • Works to establish strong relationships with suppliers and establishes processes to monitor supplier performance

  • Responsible for establishing processes and training relative to purchasing and planning activities, including the handoff from new product development to sustaining and then to product obsolescence

  • Works with production in establishing and adjusting production scheduling

  • Manages new product development activities relative to establishing new suppliers and supply agreements as required

  • Leads/monitors staff in cost reduction activities through supplier negotiations and consolidation

  • Manages purchasing/planning, strategic sourcing,and life cycle management staff

  • Ensures that new purchased products are re-frozen each year at the proper level

  • Reviews, approves, and maintains departmental Material Requirements Planning (MRP) procedures and training programs and documentation

  • Reviews and approves Purchase Orders and Expenditures per defined procedures

  • Responsibilities as a manager include interviewing and hiring employees; planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems

     

    Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA) required

 

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years’ related experience and training in purchasing or related MRP activity

  • Minimum 5 years’ supervisory experience

  • Member of formal Purchasing and/or Planning Association a plus

 

 

 

Skills

  • Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, and the general public

  • Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

  • Ability to work in a highly confidential work environment

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

  • Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs

  • Must have the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite for Windows, Excel and Word knowledge preferred, on an IBM or compatible personal computer

  • Ability to negotiate with supplier relative to product costing and inventory management while developing and maintaining positive supplier relationships

  • Oracle, AS 400, Access

  • Ability to monitor and adjust inventory assurance programs with suppliers to maintain and protect the supply chain

  • Ability to reduce complex procedures into simplified form and able to education others

  • Ability to facilitate process definition and improvement within the department

  • Proven ability to plan production

 

Travel

  • Less than 25% of travel required for this position
